Spring 2025 Egg Hatching
Reception - Egg Hatching!
This term we welcomed the exciting delivery of ten eggs into Reception. The eggs started hatching on Wednesday 26th February, just two days after they arrived, staying warm in their special incubator.
Throughout the day on Wednesday, the eggs were cracking and hatching! By Thursday morning we had ten fluffy, yellow chicks! The hatchlings have been moved to a safe and warm home, complete with plenty of food, water, and a heat lamp to keep them cosy as they grow.
It’s been an incredible experience for our Reception children, who have loved seeing the live Hatch Cam feed in their classrooms. They have been able to watch every moment of the hatching process, and it's been wonderful to see their excitement and curiosity.
The chicks are with us for our Spring topic, Ready Steady Grow, which is focusing on teaching the children about plant and animal life cycles, understanding what plants need to grow, and promoting healthy eating habits.
The children have been able to observe and discuss the process of a chick hatching from an egg, exploring the concepts of growth, change and the needs of baby animals. Everyone has been able to closely watch the eggs in the incubator, talking about the change in appearance and movement as the chick developed and grew.
Everyone has enjoyed drawing and exploring various aspects of Spring along with the egg hatching.
