School Streets
At Hamworthy Primary Schools, one of our top priorities is the safety of our pupils. We want all of our pupils to be safe when they walk, scooter or cycle to and from school. We also want our pupils to be safe if they are dropped off in a motor vehicle by a parent or guardian.
What is a School Street?
A School Street is a temporary road closure outside a school for a short period of time during drop off and pick up times. Parents and carers are asked to either walk, scoot or cycle with their children to school, or to park a little further away and walk the last few minutes of the journey. This creates a calmer environment, improves air quality, tackles congestion and allow families to travel to school more safely.
How do School Streets work?
The road is closed for certain times during drop off and pick up, via a timed Traffic Order displayed on signs at the entrance to the road. The road closures take place on weekdays during term time only. During the closure periods stewards will be present to help enforce this and to welcome families arriving at the School Street. Access is maintained for emergency services and residents of the School Street. Blue Badge holders are able to use the drop off and parking facilities in the Twin Sails driveway.
Hamworthy Park Junior School Street
The road is closed on the school side of Ashmore Crescent. The closure point will be at the entrance to Ashmore Crescent.
The local authority have given permission for no traffic on this road (apart from residents) during 8.00-9.00am and 2.15-3.30pm.
The street is manned by staff and volunteers between approx 8.20 - 8.50am and 2.40 - 3.10pm
