Design and Technology Intent
As a federation, we aim to develop children as designers who demonstrate these characteristics:
Imagination and creativity in order to create innovative products and prototypes.
Resilience and problem-solving skills, when facing challenges or when something doesn’t go to plan.
The ability to draw upon skills and knowledge from other areas of the curriculum e.g. maths, history, science, English.
Courage to take risks within their work and try out ideas in a safe and supportive learning environment.
Flexibility when it comes to making adaptations to their design.
The ability to prepare food, safely and hygienically.
Evaluate their products thoroughly, reflecting on what went well and how their work could be improved.
At Hamworthy Park Junior School, Design and Technology takes place in The Hub, a large room equipped with cooking appliances and work stations where the children have ample space to set up resources needed for their project.
All children complete 3 projects per year, building upon their DT skills throughout the key stage.
