Governors
Twin Sails Infant and Hamworthy Park Junior Schools are four-form entry primary schools in Hamworthy, Poole and part of the Hamwic Education Trust.
We currently have three vacancies for Governors on our Local Governing Body.
Being a school governor or trustee is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to young people, give something back to your local community and use and develop your skills in a board-level environment.
What do governors do?
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
Our current Local Governing Body in Hamworthy is made up of Governors with a variety of backgrounds, skills, and experiences.
We are currently looking for new Governors, who may have some of these attributes:
- A desire to contribute to and represent our diverse community
- The ability to look at issues objectively
- The confidence to ask questions and join in debate
- A willingness to listen and make informed judgements
With our current vacancies, and as part of our succession planning, we’re also keen to appoint individuals with experience in HR, data analysis, safeguarding, mental health services and SEND.
We can offer you:
- A chance to develop skills in strategic leadership
- A chance to gain new experiences and challenges
- Training to support you to be successful in your role
We have two parent Governor representatives on our board, both voted in by parents to represent the parent and carer community. Due to the constraints in the make-up of our board, we are unable to appoint any more parents currently. However, if you do know someone in our community who may be able to help us, please share this opportunity with them.
If you would like to have an informal conversation about the role of a Governor, or would like to apply for one of our vacancies, please contact Debbie Brett, Chair of Governors, at gov.chair@hamworthyprimaryschools.co.uk
All schools within the Trust are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.
Federation Governing Body
Welcome to the information page for the Federation Governing Body
This page will give you some information about our statutory responsibilities and reporting, and a little about us as individuals too.
The purpose of governance is to provide strategic leadership, which leads to robust accountability, oversight, and assurance for educational and financial performance. All governance boards, no matter what type of school or how many schools they govern, have three core functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.
In Hamworthy, we are proud to be part of the Hamwic Education Trust (known as HET) and as part of this Trust we are one of several Academies operated by the Trust, known as the Hillary Partnership.

Kayleigh Attwill
I am the Reception Year Leader at Twin Sails Infant School where I have worked since I qualified in September 2016.
I joined the Governing Body in 2019 and my main role is supporting the Early Years Teaching and Learning team. I am a passionate Early Years practitioner and find it an incredibly rewarding environment to work in. I love seeing how the children in our care learn, develop, and grow in such a supportive and fun environment.
Cherry Bailey
I have been a parent governor since November 2021. I am very proud to be a governor here and just like every parent, I want the very best for my children hence I can bring a parent’s perspective to every meeting.
As well as being a parent, I have worked part time across both schools for the past three years. Prior to this I volunteered at Twin Sails as a reading support.
I sit on the Teaching and Learning Committee, and I am the Early Years Governor.
Debbie Brett
Hello, I am Debbie, and I am a co-opted Governor. I have been a Governor since 2015, and I became Chair of Governors in 2019. In addition to my role as Chair, I am also the Governor responsible for Safeguarding, and I have previously been the link Governor for Business.
In my day job I am an experienced Change and Project Manager, delivering business change in organisations in Financial Services, Commercial, Energy and the Charity sector.
I am also a parent, with both of my children attending Twin Sails Infant and Hamworthy Park Juniors.
I am incredibly proud of our schools and feel honoured to get to play a part in our ethos of Every Child, Every Day, Every Possibility. I work closely with the leadership team to fulfil our duties as Governors, but also partner with the schools to ensure we are maximising our potential and doing the very best we can for the wonderful children in our care.
Susannah Hill
I am extremely fortunate and proud, as the Headteacher of the Federation, to be working alongside an enabling team of staff and Governors to ensure we shape and develop the journey of both of our schools as a strong, united Federation.
Having begun this role at the start of the pandemic, it has been essential that we never lost sight of our aim - to ensure that our Federated offer is high quality, based on all through Primary model, which begins with an outstanding Nursery and takes our children through to Year 6 preparing them well for the next stage of education.
Governors have a pivotal role in supporting the school to grow and develop, with our regular meetings and reviews that ensures we provide a seamless, nurturing and enabling education for all our children.
Ross Lampey
Hi, I’m Ross. I’m a Parent Governor at Twin Sails Infant and Hamworthy Park Junior Schools. Both of my boys have been taught at the schools and my wife and I have witnessed the passion and professionalism that is present from the teaching team over the years.
I have a background in technology and risk management, and I’ve have held several senior professional roles at the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and JPMorgan. I’ve taken on the responsibility of oversight of Premises, Health and Safety and will be supporting any other areas that I can.
It’s a privilege to be able to contribute to the school and I hope to help and be part of providing the best education to the children of Hamworthy and the local area. I’m very proud to be a parent Governor and am looking forward to supporting the continued success of the schools.
Lianne Parrish
Hello, I'm Lianne Parrish and I've been involved with the governing body for over ten years now, firstly as a parent and now as a co-opted governor.
I joined the governing body when my daughter started school as a way of learning and understanding the content and delivery of education for her as I thought it would be a very different experience from my school days!!
I have continued to be involved with the Teaching & Learning Committee after she left because I enjoy being involved in events, meeting staff, seeing the children learn and supporting the school in raising standards.
Christine Toon
I am a retired Headteacher with an ongoing wish to see children and their families thrive and have the best life possible.
As a governor I want to support the school in providing quality education for children in Hamworthy.
I focus on Special Needs and Pupil Premium issues, along with having an involvement in many other aspects of school life.
I very much enjoy being a governor, it is special.
