Celebrating our Learning
Life cycle of a butterfly
This week we have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. We are lucky enough to have some caterpillars of our own and we have been watching them as they grow. Over the weekend the caterpillars have started to form into a chrysalis! We have been fascinated watching them grow and change, now we just need to wait patiently for them to emerge as a butterfly!
Visiting our local library
We walked to Hamworthy Library this week. Before we left, we reminder ourselves about road safety. We repeated, stop, look, listen, check and used this when crossing at the pedestrian crossing. We explored the books and listened to our teacher's read to us. We were able to bring some books back to school to borrow in our reading corners.
Next week we will be using the pictures from our journey to make some maps.
Spring
We have enjoyed learning about lots of books during our 'Once Upon a Time' topic. We wanted to find out if all fiction stories begin with 'Once Upon a Time...' So far we have found lots of stories that do, but some that don't!
This week we read, 'The Three Little Pigs' and enjoyed making new houses for the Pigs using junk modelling and recycling, some of us even added a little trap to catch the cheeky wolf in! We have been creating story maps and labelling parts of the story, next week we are going to create our own characters, creating a new baddie in the story and writing it ourselves. During Computing, we have been working really hard on our mouse control. We have created a scene from the story using our paint skills.
As the sun has been trying really hard to come out this week, we decided to plant some seeds ready for Spring. Our garden always looks so beautiful covered in pretty flowers and plants, so we decided to plant red sunflowers, marigolds and tomatoes. Mrs Smith told us that some research was carried out where the plants grow really strong by saying words of affrimations to them. We have been trying this, by saying kind words of encouragement and giving compliments to our plants as we water and observe them!
Autumn
With our Autumn Term topic being 'Celebrations.' we spent time writing invitations, making party hats and birthday cupcakes in preparation for Granny Pam's 90th birthday.
Granny Pam is Miss Watson's granny and the children really enjoyed preparing for the party. On the day, Granny Pam wasn't well enough to attend, so the amazing Mrs Crossley stepped up to play the part!
Look who we found in our garden!
Yesterday we went for a little walk around our school garden and noticed something very strange! There was a trail of half eaten food all around, so we decided to follow it! The food led us to The Very Hungry Caterpillar (crocheted by the very clever Miss Watson!) We are so excited to be learning about the Hungry Caterpillar this week launching our new topic 'Ready, Steady, Grow!'
