Celebrating our Learning
Granny Pam's Birthday!- Week beginning 2nd December
Earlier this week we received a phone call from our beloved Granny Pam, she is turning 90 and has been busy planning her party! Granny Pam asked us if we could help her by baking some cakes, writing a shopping list and making cards for her to put up on her mantelpiece. The children were so excited to get involved and have been busily baking cakes for her by following a recipe and weighing and mixing the ingredients. We can't wait to celebrate with you Granny Pam!
12th November - Diwali
This week we have been talking about Diwali the Hindu Festival of Lights. We have learnt the Art technique of printing and created beautiful Rangoli patterns, collaged Diya lamps and wrote cards to our friends and families to mark the celebration.
11th November - Remembrance
Today we created Poppies for Remembrance Day to wear to our special assembly. We watched 'Poppies' on BBC whilst holding our 2 minutes silence, remembering those who helped us during the war.
15th October - Pets
Our Reception classrooms have been filled with excitement as the children got to meet some very lovely pets! Everyone had the opportunity to meet and learn about a variety of animals. Mrs Gooch bought in her beautiful dog, Cassie the black Labrador, and we had a tortoise, two adorable rabbits and amazing land snails!
7th October
Since starting school we have been learning about all the special things about ourselves and others that make us all unique.
This week we have been learning through 'The Colour Monster' book and talking about our feelings. We have learnt that it is okay to feel different emotions and ways that we can keep our minds healthy.
We have been exploring primary colours and ways that we can mix colours to make new colours (secondary).
30th September
As part of our 'All about me' topic we have been learning all about our senses! Mrs Champion made us all some smelly dough which was a big hit and the classrooms smelt like cinnamon and peppermint! We used the dough to make prints using autumn objects such as pine cones and acorns, we observed the patterns they made and talked about how they felt.
On the creative table we did some observational paintings of pumpkins and learnt how to make the colour orange by mixing primary colours red and yellow! We even made our paint smell nice by using orange essence!
We've been learning how to use the computers, using the mouse to select tools and draw in the program 'Paint'. As we had been looking at pumpkins in the classroom we decided to have a go at drawing them on the computer.
