Welcome!

First of all we would like to warmly welcome you and your child to our school.

We understand that starting school can be a very exciting time but perhaps also a nervous time for you and your child. We would therefore like to support you by making this transition as smooth as possible.

We have a lot of information to share with you over the coming weeks, and we will communicate with you mainly via email. We use a system called Admissions+ to securely collect your information so we have everything ready for when your child starts with us. 

You will soon be receiving a link and password to our secure site, which enables you to complete our enrolment forms. If you have any problems, please just give the office a call and we will be happy to talk you through the process. We can also reset any passwords, or give additional family members access, should you need it.

Dates

July:

Date in pack will detail individual dates of a 3:15pm-3:45pm visit to classrooms on either Monday 1st July OR Thursday 4th July.

On this date, you will also have the opportunity to sign up for a 1:1 parent consultation for September with your child's new class teacher.

September:

Half the class will attend either 4th or 5th September session (staggered start day/time will be detailed individually)

1:1 parent consultations in afternoon. 

All children will attend:

Friday 6th September 8:30am to 1:00pm (stay for lunch)

Monday 9th September 8:30am to 2:50pm (full day)

Whilst we appreciate that you will want to prepare your child as much as you can for starting school, please remember that they do not need to do lots of "schoolwork" at home before they start. Here at Twin Sails Infant School, we like to focus on the skills the children need to be secure in to help them make the best start.

School Readiness

All children, whatever age they are, are ready to learn. School Readiness is seven developmental areas that can show your child is ready for school:

1. Turn taking, sharing, listening to group times

2. Self-confident, shows empathy

3. Runs, climbs, balances and can throw and catch a ball

4. Draws, uses scissors, uses a pincer grip

5. Answers questions, follows directions

6. Identifies shapes and colours

7. Can toilet independently and tidy up after themselves. 

Whilst it is wonderful if your child can write their name or count to 20, we never expect the children to start school being able to do these things. It is more important for us that they work at achieving the above skills, as these create the foundation for all successful learning in the future. 

Skills like the ones listed above can be encouraged at home in lots of different ways. Singing nursery rhymes, sharing stories, solving puzzles, baking with your child and simply chatting with them.
